Adults
Orenda works with adults whose sensory and regulation differences have been shaping their lives longer than the've had a name for it. We start by figuring out what your nervous system is actually doing, which is more specific than "anxiety" or "ADHD" and it's more useful. From there the work shifts focus to reducing the load where it can be reduced. We stop fighting and start embracing the parts that are not changing. And we build skills in the places that are adaptable.
Coping is not the same as thriving...
My goal is to help you better understand or resolve uncomfortable emotions or challenging behaviors in a way that feels manageable. Over the years I have supported adults navigating the nervous system complexities under the diagnoses of Anxiety, ADHD, Autism, and Trauma. Some common issues I treat with adults include:
OCD and Specific Phobias
Understanding and rebuilding after trauma
Burnout
Relationship distress
Executive function management
Adjusting to life phase changes
Chronic overwhelm
EXAMPLES OF TREATMENT MODELS I COMMONLY USE
CBT
Cognitive Behavior Therapy
CBT has practical everyday applications. This therapy can help someone understand the negativity of their thought patterns and learn how to replace them with more positive ones. Discovering new ways of looking at things helps to learn how to respond differently and improve rather than worsen stressful situations.
IFS
Internal Family Systems
The primary focus of IFS is based around the idea that every person has multiple sub-personalities which can be in conflict with each other. This can lead to problematic habits and behaviors. The goal is to help people identify and accept the different parts of themselves and heal those that are causing conflict or discomfort in the client's present life.
ACT
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
ACT is an evidence-based approach within the cognitive-behavioral family. Rather than working to eliminate or fully control difficult thoughts and emotions, ACT focuses on building psychological flexibility and resilience through the ability to stay present and act in line with your values even in the presence of discomfort.
SOMATIC EXPERIENCING
Integrative Trauma Interventions
Orenda's clinican is a Level One Certified Integrative Trauma Therapist through Aura Institute of Integrative Therapies. The term somatic comes from the Greek word soma, which means “body.” Somatic healing therapies fall within the spectrum of mind-body therapies, and use interventions that work with the body to access and change feelings, thoughts, and behaviors.
